Beatrice of Swabia, daughter of King Manfredi and his second wife Helen of Epirus, spent her entire childhood and youth, like her brothers Enzo, Frederick, and Henry, in the grim prisons of Charles of Anjou before being freed by the Aragonese army sent by Peter III of Aragon to the Kingdom of Sicily to liberate it from French occupation.
